how do you make your instructions ?

I did two instructions (but I dint post both instructions) and I think my method is not the best one ...
i would like to know what's your's  :P

Here's my method:
  • Build the machine that needs instructions (duh)
  • Take it apart in chunks. Each chunk is a separate step
  • Photograph each chunk from a few camera angles
  • Select a 'base' chunk
  • Add another chunk to that, take photo
  • Repeat previous step until all the chunks are joined, and the original model is rebuilt
