Sigma, a K'nex ball machine in the works!
« on: May 21, 2018, 09:16:50 pm »
I have recently started my next k'nex ball machine, Sigma. It will be my largest K'nex build yet.

The sole lift of the machine is a shifting arm lift that is 12 arms tall! I have made some modifications to it, such as adding counterweights to some of the arms and strengthening the crankshafts and connection rods. It still needs some work as it has issues with carrying more than one ball at a time.

I plan for it to have 8-10 paths and many new elements

Sigma update!

Another update on Sigma:

The lift network has been altered from the original plan, now it contains an 8 arm tall shifting arm lift followed by a helix and a mill lift. The reasoning for the change was that I couldn't get the 12 arm version to work well. There is also a wheel which limits the amount of balls that can be on the shifting arm lift at a time (the lift isn't reliable when there is more than 2 balls on it at a time). Pics 2-4 show the lifts.

I have also made the path selector, which is a horizontal version of the infinity switch. There are 8 modules, which equates to 9 paths. I have started on some of the paths as well. One path includes a maze, and another contains a new element!

screw that machine, what is that little contraption you made at the fan? (at the right side of the first picture)
Looks like a picture holder, but it couldn't be that simple...could it?

Oh, that thing is basically a tripod for a smartphone, I use it when I want to film something without having to hold the phone.

Looks like a good old-fashioned ball machine! Is that thing in the last pic a new lift or something? Looks really cool btw. :)

The machine has been finished for a while, I have yet to edit the video though (I procrastinate a lot, something I really need to work on  :P )
I'll try to get the video up before Wednesday. In the mean time, here is a photo of the finished machine!
