K'nex Sports Car
« on: March 15, 2018, 06:19:39 pm »
Long time since I made something that actually works...

This sports car may be small, but features HOG-steering (Hand of God, as seen in many LEGO models). I came up with this idea pretty spontaneously. The rear axle also has a stiff suspension system, featuring a blue flexi rod.

I'm thinking of making the model Yellow/Orange/Red, due to the flexi rods in the front.

That looks amazing! But what is Hand of God steering, and is there any motor?
My three best things to do:

G, I'm always surprised by the new ways of connecting pieces you discover. Never thought of checking if the tan clips fit into the holes of the blue hinge connectors like that. Brilliant!

Really nice design as well. I'm impressed with how compact it is. Keen to see what different colour variations you come up with. Seems to me a yellow version could work due to the amount of metallic yellow connectors?

That looks amazing! But what is Hand of God steering, and is there any motor?

Notice the grey gear in the front steering system? It means he can steer the car while moving it by rotating that gear. Almost as if a 'hand of God' wear reaching down and steering the car. through the gear.

Hand of God steering means that you (God, compared to your miniature car) can drive your car around with your hand, when the steering wheel is easy accessible by hand (on top of the roof in this case). Otherwise you'll have to reach in the passenger space to turn the wheel (like in my 4x4) which is less ergonomic.
No motor, pushed by hand. It's fun enough and otherwise I couldn't get it so small.

^That's correct. I added my own explanation :)

Thanks for your comment :) The blue hinge-tan clip is about the smallest linear hinge you can get. It works perfect in this configuration and it's so simple.
The small size of the model makes it accessible for more people :)
Yeah I thought so too. And the red and orange won't hinder the main yellow colour. I also have some yellow 4-way pieces to throw in, to replace the black ones. The rest can stay silver/grey.

Not yet :)

You guys have the right to see me more active. I hope I can bring you instructions for three models (AT-ST, Y-Wing and updated Lambda) and this one soon.
As the weather is getting nicer, It's easier to take pictures and videos of my models. Pictures means instructions... and so on.

During Kingsday I found the rare yellow 3D connectors... 4 of each. This motivated me to yellow-ize the Sports Car. You can see the result so far below. I'm thinking to make the interior in yellow too.
The yellow steering wheel fits great :) Only I'm not happy about the window-stiles.

Thanks!
Yeah and the size is not too big. I think there are about 200 pieces in there right now? Perhaps 250 when complete.
