I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but this might help you design the gears:

I could turn this into a selector, but I can't think of a reason I'd need logic gates.

I could also use this to engage/disengage a motor, but again, I can't think of a reason I'd need logic gates to do that.

How big do you want the drawer to be?

I had a plan to make that, but add in an entrance track, exit track, and a way of resetting the element.

Then I forgot my plan.  :-\

Site Feedback and Questions / Re: how do you make your instructions ?
« on: January 06, 2017, 12:37:33 am »
Here's my method:
  • Build the machine that needs instructions (duh)
  • Take it apart in chunks. Each chunk is a separate step
  • Photograph each chunk from a few camera angles
  • Select a 'base' chunk
  • Add another chunk to that, take photo
  • Repeat previous step until all the chunks are joined, and the original model is rebuilt

Project Ideas and Help / Piece Efficient Elements
« on: December 03, 2016, 07:12:46 am »
I'm nearly finished a ball machine and I'm running low on pieces. I've ran out of yellow connectors and grey rods (and nearly ran out of red rods).

What are some piece efficient elements? I need to build a path that goes the length of 5 red rods, and a lift that goes the height of 2 red rods. Any suggestions?

I fixed it. The problem was that the scaffold holding up the element was very unstable. Every time the ball went on the arm, the pieces holding the arm would bend a lot.

Could you make the arm heavier?
The element has 2 arms. When one goes up, the other goes down.

You could also try to drop the ball from a greater height into the arm
I'll try that.

I need some help making an element. I explain the problem in this video:

That's a lot of gears! Is it all powered by one motor?

Are there any other uses for the white gears? I have three of them but no motor.

General Knex Discussion / Meshing small gears
« on: November 03, 2016, 12:18:49 am »
I recently discovered that the smallest sized gears can mesh if you arrange them like in the picture.

You can use this to make two gears turn the opposite direction in the space of one blue rod.

Hopefully this is helpful.
