I've been working on a mechanism that engages/disengages a motor, and I realised that I could use it to reset a trebuchet. A trebuchet could be used to throw a ball with the use of a heavy counterweight. Does anyone have instructions for a trebuchet that can be used for a lift (or element) of a ball machine?

Occasionally my cousins (4yo and 8yo) come to visit and they want to build a ball machine with me. Usually they have to go home before we're done. I was hoping someone could recommend a simple design that I could build with them in under two hours.
My design was one lift, two tracks, one element, and the whole thing was 3 red rods high. Maybe someone could also recommend the easiest lift and element to make?

Is this a commercially available piece?

I'm nearly finished a ball machine and I'm running low on pieces. I've ran out of yellow connectors and grey rods (and nearly ran out of red rods).
What are some piece efficient elements? I need to build a path that goes the length of 5 red rods, and a lift that goes the height of 2 red rods. Any suggestions?

I need some help making an element. I explain the problem in this video:

I recently discovered that the smallest sized gears can mesh if you arrange them like in the picture.
You can use this to make two gears turn the opposite direction in the space of one blue rod.
Hopefully this is helpful.

The contest is easy: Who can make the best model in 10 pieces or less? The model must either look good, or be useful.
Here is my submission:

Eater AutomatonInstructions AvailableThis is my latest automaton. It picks up knex balls and eats them. It has two moving arms, a head that turns, and a mouth that opens.

Usually I use Internet Explorer 11. The KnexFlux Chat does not load properly. It works fine on Chrome.

This machine has one output rod. It can be programmed to change direction by putting connectors on a chain. By building more of these (using the same motor), you can probably build a robotic arm or some other complicated thing. Unfortunately, I don't have enough gears to build more of these, so I'm sharing it now hoping that someone else will pick up this project. If you would like instructions for this, tell me.

It is possible to build logic gates out of knex. Using this you can build statements such as:
IF ((lever A is down AND lever B is up) OR ((lever A is up AND lever C is down))) THEN raise output lever ELSE lower output lever
Can anyone think of a use for this? Also, I can provide a tutorial if anyone wants to make their own.

Sliding ArmsBall Machine Lift View Instruction This lift is more for show than for practicality. It uses many gears (like the jigsaw lift) which is why I cannot make it bigger. Maybe you could. Send me a picture if you do. This lift system should be extendable to any height.

I use battery powered motors. Over time the batteries run out of power and the motor slows down and looses power. Then I recharge the batteries and the motor goes back to full speed and full power.
Are there any similar problems when using the motors that plug into the wall?
On the topic of motors, does anyone have a good use for the spring motor?

I want to build a robot out of knex using only one motor. I am able to get the robot to swap tasks with this type of gearbox: https://youtu.be/WlGI07xRFuIThe problem is, I don't know what I want to get the robot to do. Any Ideas? It would have to be a looped task (the robot ends where it started) and I would like it to look similar to a human because my friend believes I can build sentient knex machines, which I can.

The 'new topic' button is unavailable in most forum categories (eg Project Ideas and Help) it's just not there. I can only reply to posts and introduce myself. Also, I'm receiving error 500 when trying to set my avatar.
Personally I believe this website could be made much more user friendly for new users. I am struggling to find my way around.
