General Knex Discussion / Re: Is this worth purchasing?

Not really. I agree with @austron but I'd go further and say that buying individual parts in large amounts is often a really cheap way of getting specific parts. About 2 years ago I got 1000 red connectors for 10 bucks (I think...maybe it was 15). That averages out to 1 and 2/3 pieces per cent respectively. Just do some hunting for good deals. :)

I don't really think it would be very profitable to try to sell those contraptions because there are probably less than 50 people worldwide who would have a use for them. However, making instructions here or on instructables would be really awesome. Maybe try making these with commercially available parts that anyone could buy?

ya know what, now that I think about it, once you get these things working reliably and easily sourced, I think you might be able to try to sell them, but don't count on many people buying them. Like I said before, there are probably less than 50 people worldwide who would build this, let alone buy it. If you make instructions for one of them and enter it on an instructables contest, that would be a good way of getting some publicity that you could forward to ebay or another site. Just a quick note if you do decide to do that: you can't post the ible and then later enter it into a contest. You have to make the ible and enter it into the contest when you publish it.

I really like this idea and I really think quite a few people in this community would really like it. Maybe post a discussion on this site specifically for this project and see how many people would like to see it! :D

Where do you live? I might consider buying some but I don't wanna pay a ton in shipping. :)
I'm from England, whereabouts are you? Like I said, if interested it's best to email me :)

Oh sorry I didn't see that. I'm in the US so I don't think it would be worth the shipping cost. :(

I think a remote controlled motor would be amazing! Especially if a motor is buried deep inside a build, because you wouldn't have to risk breaking it to find the switch. Any ideas on how that could be done? Seriously, I'd use a remote controlled motor.

Just a suggestion: maybe try using an orange gear (if you have one)? That seems like it would do exactly what you want it to do.

Those stupid licensed sets are so...stupid. Really they're just trying to knock off lego half the time now, when they had an original product idea that sold well! Why would they do something that stupid?!

anyway, yeah, good thing they got bought out. Maybe they'll go back to their roots and make some good old fashioned rods and connectors stuff.

I was just thinking that maybe it has more to do with the times they were released. I'm gonna theorize here about what happened (I'm pretty sure it didn't happen this way, but hey, maybe it did!)

Grey rod length ones were first used in piece-based roller coasters (I think), so they were designed to be as long as possible while still being part of the system, thus they were grey rod length.

Yellow rod length ones were used on rollercoasters as well but only where a grey rod length one would be too long. (I'm guessing probably at the end of the roller coaster track they would be used to link the beginning and the end)

Blue and white rod length ones were released more recently for precision building.

And I guess they didn't add the red rod length because it's only cross compatible with blue rod length, which exists, so why make a whole new part that can already be made with a conversion? And really, there wasn't any flexible version of the red/blue rod structure system until then so I'll take it.

If this post makes no sense, I'm sorry. I'm too lazy to proofread and I suck at explaining stuff.
