Cat Winter Shelter

Cat Winter Shelter
--> View Model

This is infrastructure for a winter shelter for our neighborhood stray cat (who we affectionately call Gus). Last year, I covered the shelter with a blanket. This year, I am getting smarter (I hope) and am using cardboard to enclose the whole shelter to keep out the cold, wind, and snow. It may seem silly, but if you saw how much Gus used his hobo house last year, you'd understand why I want to do it better this year. Open for suggestions on improvement!

My cat loves rubbing her neck over blue connectors. If the house doesn't slide you could replace a white connector with the blue and purple connector?

Looking nice, doesn't seem to be holding out the cold quite well, though :P
Or will you enhance it with like foam?

Y'know, here's a silly question, are cats capable of using doggy-doors? I would think so. Could perhaps add a grey rod between the blue connectors in the entrance and dangle some more K'nex from there to keep out even more cold.

They *are* capable, but some of them do not like using doors like that. However, it's a great thought! I bet Gus wouldn't mind it as long as it kept him from the cold.

Mathsboy, I'm not quite following your line of thought. Replace which parts?

Sorunome, I am. I found a box in my garage that seems to be a great size for a cat house. The knex will serve as the inner infrastructure. I posted more pictures over on my blog, and that's where I'll post the completed picture as well: http://knexkreations.blogspot.com/2015/10/hobo-cat-house-ii.html

My cat loves to rub her neck against rough edges, such as hair brushes and connectors. She would walk up to my knex machines and rub her neck on the corners (where there a blue connectors) until the machine falls over.

Perhaps you could add some unnecessary corners and see if the cat likes it?

This is such a creative idea that is carried out so well! When I was really little (like 7 or something) we had 2 cats. We one time made a (rather stupidly huge) cardboard cat house in the kitchen. We had to literally shove the cat in!

I don't remember where I was going with this...

Maybe if you have the parts you could add some say white connector flooring or use the flat sides of orange connectors to the side to make a more hard wall. :)

@www139 From experience, cats don't like white connector flooring. Twice I've made the mistake of making a ball machine for the cat to walk into.

I actually covered the infrastructure with cardboard to make the cat less susceptible to the elements! I will post a picture here in a little bit. I've still got the shelter in my basement!
